Haunted Woods is an area located nearly two hundred miles southwest of Central Neopia. It is home to all sorts of spooky people, places, and things. When Halloween starts coming closer, this is the place for Neopians to visit. Let JC know when you are ready for our next stop: Lost Desert.

The Castle of Eliv Thade
A long long time ago, in a castle that lay deep within the Haunted Woods, lived a Kacheek named Eliv Thade. A puzzle writer by profession, Thade prided himself on being able to instantly work out any puzzle that was brought before him. Visitors came from far and wide, eager to win fame for having finally stumped him, but without exception they all failed. It hardly required any effort for the clever Kacheek to dash the hopes of his challengers, solving their puzzles with ease before turning them away. That is, until the day that everything changed... as was bound to happen, one of his servants eventually found a puzzle that he could not solve, and that drove him insane.

Many years later, Thade died alone, without ever finding the answer to his servant's puzzle. Now, even after death, he clings to his home searching for the answer...and tormenting anyone who drops by for a visit.

The Haunted House
This is a fun little "Choose your own adventure" style game. The story takes place on a stormy night in a small village near the forest. Every vilage around the woods has stories about ghosts, demons, and other strange and horrible creatures that live in the Haunted Woods, and NO ONE from any of these villages will ever enter the forest for fear they will never return. You, on the other hand, aren't afraid, right?

The Brain Tree
The Brain Tree sits alone in the haunted woods. As far as we know, he is the only tree to have developed intelligence, and he thirsts for knowledge. If you accept his quest, he will ask you a question, your quest being to find the answer in a limited amount of time. He needs your help to fill in the blanks in his history record. Your quest will be to find out things like when the famous Neopian, Chester Chiapot, was born and where he died. The answers are randomly generated, so the only way to get the answers is...well, we'll cover that later...

The Brain Tree also guards against a mysterious beast. Not much is known about it, but it is powerful enough to cause great trouble if it ever escapes into Neopia. It makes you wonder just how bad it would have to be if it is imprisoned when Sloth and Jhudora roam free...

Magax: Destroyer
Another vile plot has been concocted by the evil Hubrid Nox:
"Evil ghost Neopets that rise from the dead - they will make me an invincible army!!!! Soon the whole of Neopia will be my slaves!!"
A little too cliche? Not for Nox, that's the way he likes it... but this time he has met his match... MAGAX: Destroyer, a protector of good with a dark background. Who knows why he has sworn to get revenge on Hubrid this time, but lets hope he succeeds. (Note: the "g" is soft like in gem, not hard like in goat.)

For centuries, he served Hubrid Nox as Neopia's greatest threat, a villain without equal... but all of that is behind him now. He is determined to undo the evil he has caused, and destroy Nox before Nox destroys Neopia.

Spooky PetPets
Some pets prefer petpets that are just a little bit on the creepy side. At one time, there was a spooky petpet that looks like a little snowman. After a few years of mistaken placement, the Abominable Snowball, as it is called, was reclassified as a "Wintery PetPet".

The Witch's Tower
Feeling up to a challenge? Edna the Witch needs some items for her latest spell. If you can get them back to her before time runs out, she'll give you a small reward.
Who is Edna? Well let me tell you a little bit about her...
See that broomstick leaning up against the tower? That belongs to Edna the Witch and it's been there for ages. Rumor has it that it took her over two hundred moons just to learn how to ride it, and she's still not very good at it. She's the first one to tell you, "Hey, it's not as easy as it looks. It's a broomstick, you nitwits!! Why don't you try it?" For Edna, being a witch isn't as easy as it looks either. Spells always seem to be just a little off, and they never work exactly as she had hoped. That's why she is always brewing up new trials...in the hopes of someday getting it right. But let's not discuss this too loudly since I'd rather not become a handy target...

Neopet Masks
Can't decide what to wear for Halloween? Why not go as your favorite neopet? There are two types of masks here: those that are ready to be printed, cut out, and worn; and those that you can color yourself to match whatever you've painted your pet. Here are what the Kougra style masks look like:

Colouring Pages
These pictures are perfect for those rainy Fall days when you can't go outside. Add a splash of color to these spooky scenes and decorate your home for Halloween. Each picture leads to a full size version to print out and color.
Here is JC's favorite:

The Esophagor
This creepy denizen of the dark is always looking for food. He cannot travel on his own, so it's up to others to bring him what he wants...or risk becoming what he wants. If you bring back what he asks of you before time runs out, he will give you a small reward. That's not what makes him so important, however.
He can be surprisingly helpful to you if you are on a Brain Tree quest. Feed the Esophagor what he wants and he will supply you half of the answers. Feed him a second time to get the second half. Be sure to feed him twice before returning to the Brain Tree and write down what he says so you won't make a mistake.

Fetch!
Hey have you seen this mummified Blumaroo wandering around the woods searching for weird items?

His slave-driving master sent him on that errand.Care to give him a hand?
In this game, you play a blumaroo who gets sent out to find both some wierd ingredients and the way out. You have to negotiate a maze around the Haunted Woods in order to find magical ingredients... but dont get too lost because you are racing against the clock.

Running out of time is not a good thing. |
The Stone Dome
Don't let it's abandoned appearance fool you. This is where the creepiest Battledome Challengers hang out. Hope you are up for it...
| Balthazar | ![]() |
Balthazar roams Neopia in search of faeries. Beware of this mystical faerie hunter though, once he finds prey they rarely escape! |
| Jelly Chia | ![]() |
The Jelly Chia likes to bounce around, but be careful, if he bounces in your direction he is liable to flatten you. |
| Mummy | ![]() |
The mummy is tired of prowling around the Haunted Forest and wants to test his skills against your pets! |

Game Graveyard
This is where dead games go. Games so horrible, so scary that they had to be removed from the site, but now, thanks to this page, they live on! These games that have been taken down from Neopets for various reasons, and now they are available for you to play. You won't be able to send score however, and there are no high score tables.
Here are some of the games you may encounter:

![]() Scorchio's Quest II (RIP Y3) |
Deep within the Haunted Woods lies a spooky old fairground. It looks like it might have been a lot of fun before *something* drove everyone away...

Rumor has it that when they first started building the fairground, a mysterious figure approached the contractors. He told them these lands were cursed, home to outcasts and decrepit souls-a place unsafe for the living. Ignoring the hooded stranger, they continued to build. They planned the grand opening for Halloween, and everyone had a great time...until midnight... When the sun rose, and the authorities came to investigate, nothing was left, but the broken wood and ripped fabric of the booths.
Every Halloween, the fairground comes alive once more, for the few hours between sundown and midnight. Anyone stil in there at midnight is never heard from again.
You want to take a chance and see what's available? Fine, but make sure you use the buddy system...wait...I'm your buddy, aren't I? *sigh* OK...I'm coming...but we had better be out before midnight.

Wheel of Misfortune

"You come for the Wheel?" a tall stranger asks, stepping out of the shadows. "Everyone does!" he says. "Just step right up, grab 'hold and..." he pauses, his teeth glistening in the moonlight. "Pull..." he says, the word whistling through his teeth.
"Go on," he says. "You never can tell what the Wheel might give..."
"... or take away," the funny man says, just under his breath
Care to try your luck? Spin this wheel...where almost everything has a bad ending. Of course, those that do not have a bad prize are often pretty good prizes. The question is...just what is considered good?
Step right up, step right up, one and all for the .... Wheel of Misfortune. Give it a spin and see what it lands on, only 100 NP a go. You can only spin the wheel once every two hours.

Cork Gun Gallery
Well hello there, stranger! Welcome to the FINEST game kiosk this
side of the Wheel of Misfortune, which is just over there. *points*. For
a mere 100 Neopoints per shot, you could be on your way to winning
fabulous prizes! Such a very small price to pay, don't you think?
If you manage to knock one of those faboo items off the shelf, you
get to keep it as a prize! Aim carefully, though. If you miss, you're out
of luck... not that missing happens often or anything. I mean it's so easy,
a Meowclops could do it. (Look at this face. Would I lie to you?)
Despite what this Aisha claims, you'd need to be a regular sharpshooter to have a chance at this game. It's up to you, of course, but I wouldn't waste my np on it...

Coconut Shy
Hit those nails in harder, you don't want... *ahem* Sorry, I didn't see you there. Hello and WELCOME to the Haunted Woods Fairground Coconut Shy. Just 100 of your finest Neopoints gets you a throw. Knock down a coconut and win TEN THOUSAND NEOPOINTS, plus a very special (and exclusive) prize!
Hitting the coconut earns you 50 NP, and if you nearly knock it down I'll give you 300.
As with all the other games here, I think I'll pass. I'd like a game with at least a decent chance to win...
In a creepy corner of a haunted part of the Deserted Fairground is an old Bagatelle stand. As we pass, a rag-patched Lupe calls out to us:
For 250 NP you can try your luck. Simply launch the Mootix ball and see where it lands.
The higher the number the better your prize! The stars will give you an item, and the gold star will win you the JACKPOT.

Don't be fooled, though. This game DEFINITELY favors the Lupe. It's your
choice, of course...

Spooky Furniture
Finest furniture made with HauntedTM Wood. No crumbling tower,
dark cave, or swamp hut is complete without it! Tons of satisfied customers
like the Swamp Ghoul, Eliv Thade, Pant Devil and yes, even Dr. Sloth. Allow
me to show you some of our best sellers:

Keep an eye on these (and not just in case they try to get away). Many of these are "Gourmet" Foods with a rarity of 90 to 100. Gourmet food can be sold for super high prices.

Ghost Pets
With the aid of a Ghost Paint Brush you can turn your Neopet into a rather spooky spirit!
Unlike the Halloween Paint Brush, these are all shaded in ghostly grey for a super spooky effect. Here are a few of the pets that can be painted with the Ghost Paint Brush at The Rainbow Pool. I wonder if this is how the Ghost Lupe first became a ghost...or perhaps he was the inspiration behind it...

Haunted Weaponry
This scary scorchio is always looking for something bigger, more powerful, and of course, more terrifying to aid his customers in the Battledome. If your pet is one of those who wouldn't be caught dead with one of those fluffy wimpy toy weapons and is ready to move to the real deal, this is the shop for you. Look at some of the great items you can choose from...but look, don't touch. He doesn't use the "you break it, you buy it" policy. He prefers "you break it, I break you."

Carnival of Terror
A fun, colourful and exciting carnival used to move around Neopia, thrilling its residents with their amazing displays. Spectacular shows with all the colors of the rainbow would enchant audience members of all walks. That is, until THEY came...thousands of them. Machines to enslave the world at Sloth’s command…you are Neopia’s only hope of survival. Moving to the Haunted Woods may not have been the best idea. Your job is to visit the haunted carnival and take on the Robot Chia Clowns. Use the mouse to aim, and the mouse button to shoot. Collect the time, health, and ammo bonuses for more time, health, and ammo respectively.
Kill as many of the robot chia clowns as you can. Be careful not to run out of time or ammo, it will mean your life…

Deserted Fairground Scratchcards
As we pass by, a strange creature (possibly a Nimmo?) pops out of a booth. Sssidney ssspiesss a cussstomer! Welcome to the Desserted Fairground Sscratchcard Kiosk... you may purchase one of my cardss for 1,200 Neopointss, but you aren't guaranteed to win, not by any meansss...
erm...

Test your strength
Smash the mallet down as hard as you can, and see if you win a prize. Or more accurately, click the red button and hope you win a prize.
Roll Up! Roll Up! Test your Strength!
Wow! You look strong, well, you don't really. I was lying. I bet you couldn't even score two points! Pick up the mallet (if you can), and prepare to test your strength... (It costs 100NP to play!)
So far, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to who wins what, but you can play it once every six hours if you feel so inclined...
