Area : 6,200 sq. miles.
GDP : 240 million NP

Situated 250 miles to the southeast of Neopia Central, Mystery Island is a tropical isle whose exotic foods and adventurous safaris have made it a perennial favourite of tourists.

When the island was first discovered, you needed "totems" to be able to visit. Now this island retreat is free for all. Totems have been retired and are considered "collectors items", but cannot actually be used for anything.

Some examples of Island totems:

There are two paint brushes associated with Mystery Island. One for pets and one for petpets:

Mystery Island Paint Brush
Island Petpet Paint Brush

When you are ready to move on to our next stop, let JC know and she'll take you to the harbour. This is what she would look like if she were painted with the Mystery Island Paint Brush.

Ready already?

Island Mystic

Find straight answers from this wise man you will not. He was very helpful in stopping Dr. Sloth a couple of years ago, so he is often visited by those wishing to catch a glimpse of their future. Fortunately, it's all in fun. After all, with a future like he predicts, you could get confused in a hurry. Here's one of the fortunes we received one day:

Hmmmmm, welcome you are! Your fortune of today here is: You will fight off scores of insane Kyries. Tomorrow return for your fortune anew.

See what I mean?

I never understand what he's talking about

Magic Cooking Pot

This is Jhuidah the Island Faerie's magical cooking pot. If you place suitable gifts to Pango Pango inside it he may bless you with a very rare spectacular item. This is one of my favorite stops. Take two or three different items and place them in this magic pot. If you put the right ones in, you get a nice new item that is not available in the main shops. Want to see some of the possibilities?

To get this:

And this:

Apple Onion Rings

Green Apple

Banana Grub

Organic Bananas

Wriggling Grub

Barga Burger

Prime Veggie Burger

Bargasaurus Steak

I love trying to figure out what works. Sometimes you can get hints by looking at the picture, but some of them only the most imaginative souls can determine.

You can even make special petpets here

Rock Pool

This is a great shop for a specific type of petpet: the underwater variety. Choose from a vast array of petpets designed especially for pets who love water. When Maraqua was destroyed, lots of Maraquan Petpets began swimming in shoals towards Mystery Island. The petpets were gathered here by this enterprising young kougra shopkeeper who was determined to save as many as possible.

Your Neopet need never face the dark again with a cute little Filamen to light the way.
Ghoti are beautiful, delicate creatures that need lots of care and attention.
Although the Sproing lives in water it can bounce across land for short periods of time.
Crabulas love sneaking up behind people and pinching them by surprise, unfortunately they have giggle fits as soon as they have done it, so they always get caught.

How was Maraqua destroyed? Rumor has it that the pirates were involved...

Trading Post

Swapping items is a common event in Neopia. The Trading Post was established to ensure that both parties get what they expect. When someone wants to offer one or more items for trade, a "lot" is created. Each lot has a picture of the item(s), the name(s) of the items(s), and what the owner would be interested in receiving. If you are interested in bidding on that lot, you may offer items currently in your inventory and neopoints to make your offer more apealing. Unlike shops or auctions, the owner can decide whose trade to accept.

To create a trade, go to the main Trading Post page, there you will see all of the trades you are trying to make, and also at the bottom you will see a button labeled "Create A New Trade". Click this button and follow the directions to create a new trade. Here is an example of a trade that I set up:

Your trades

Brighten someones day with this sparkling silver ring.   Stunning Silver Ring

Link to all of your lots!
http://www.neopets.com/island/tradingpost.phtml?
type=browse&criteria=owner&search_string=staggpub

If someone makes an offer on that trade, the " (There are no offers on this lot)" will change to a hyperlink that will show me how many offers were made, who made the offer, and what they are offering in trade. The "Wishlist" is where you tell others what you are wanting. In this case, it was a joke between a friend and I. If I wanted a specific item in trade, I would list it here. The "Link to this lot" is a quick way to tell someone where this specific lot is located so they can bid on it. They can also view all of your trades at the "Link to all of your lots".

To see what other people want to trade go to the Browse Lots link at the top of any of the Trading Post pages. This will take you to a page where you can either look through the "Newest 20" lots, or you can do a search on a person's username, a Lot number, or an item name.

There is a time delay between when the offer is accepted and when the trade is completed. Your items will "disappear" for a while, but you will get what you traded for a short while later.

Before creating a trade, bidding on a trade, or accepting a bid on one of your trade, it's always a good idea to check the shop wizard for current market values.

One important rule: Never trade without using the Trading Post.

Sometimes we find really great deals here

Training School

Run by the Techo Master and his assistant Ryshu the Nimmo, the Mystery Island Training School is the place where brave young Neopets come to learn the fundamentals of the martial arts. For a few Codestones more, your pet can learn the art of self defence, and someday dream of tasting victory in the Battledome. When you sign up for a course, you will be asked for one or more of the 10 types of codestones to pay for that course. Once you bring the Techo Master your payment, he will start the course. The cost of the course is determined by your pet's level.

Codestones are mysterious rocks found in Neopia. They are not sold in the main shops so you can only get them from other users or random events.

Some examples of Codestones:
This mystical codestone is used for training pets in the Mystical Island Training School

Watch the Techo Master. You must learn the way of balance my son.

You may be wondering just what the Techo Master does with those codestones. According to Ryshu, these shaking oddly marked stones are placed in a garden where (if placed properly) their shaking stops.

I have some pretty nice stats

Tiki Tours

Not to brag, but why pay 50 np for a tour when JC and I will give you one for free? Sadly, the tour doesn't really tell you what's available. Of course, if you are feeling bored and would like to see a few "photos" of Mystery Island (and don't mind wasting the np) why not stop by and have a look for yourself...

weeeeeee

Kitchen Quests

When Maraqua was destroyed, this chef found a new home. If you have some spare time (and extra np) you may want to drop by Sheytano the Chef's new kitchen and help him out. He needs special ingredients for the recipes he is fixing, and if you find bring him what he needs in time, he'll give you a nice reward.

What's Maraqua? Well, there used to be this incredible undersea city, but one day these pirates showed up and...but that's another story...

Everything around here seems to deal with food...

Tropical Foods

What's an island paradise without tasty island treats? You will find all sorts of tasty items here.

Most possibly the liveliest burger you will ever eat. Watch out though, they can give a nasty nip!
A sweet succulent fruit that will quench even the most thirsty neopet.
An interesting mixture of blackcurrant and lime, only shaped like a banana - how odd!
Although the teal juppie is good for you, its not all that tasty. Some love it but most hate the flavour.
Famous Crab Burger
Funnydew Melon
Vionanna
Teal Juppie

Every year some of these foods are retired during the Gadsgadsbogen festival. It often causes a mad dash to buy up any that are still left in shops. Keep an eye on the News page in March to stay up-to-date on what's being pulled.

Juicy melons are my favorites

Tombola

This fun game may be played once a day, and is one of the "freebies" that most Neopians make a point to visit.

Great prizes to be won, just put your hand (or paw) in, pick up a tombola ticket, and see what prize you win. Anything ending with a 0, 2 or 5 is a winner. Sometimes, you may get a piece of food as a booby prize. At any rate it's free, so you have nothing to lose.

When the Tiki Tack man runs out of money for prizes, he will often ask for donations. If you have won a nice prize recently, be sure to donate a little something to help him out.

Tombola was not always free. In the begining, you had to use special "Tombola Coins" to play. These coins are no longer needed (and don't have any value) but are nice to keep around as conversation pieces or gallery items:

This lucky tombola coin gets you a spin of the Tiki Tack Tombola - with prizes galore!!!

Even if you DON'T win, you get SOMETHING

Tiki Tack

If you want a souvenir of your visit to Mystery Island, you may want to pick something up here. There are all sorts of items here, but I'd be careful about what I buy. Some items, such as the really cool lava lamps are worth the np you spend, but others, like the palm fans, are often given away as Tombola "booby prizes" and can be bought for 1-2 np if you really want them.

Never lose your keys again with this handy key ring. Not only does it hold your keys, it pokes you in the leg to let you know its still in your pocket!
Amuse your friends and family with this hula dancing Blumaroo.
These finely crafted hand-held fans are made from the sacred coconut palm, which grows on the island.
Handmade by island artisians, these clay pots are used to hold a wide variety of items.

Many of the items here aren't worth what he charges.

Market Place

When Neopians decide to set up a shop of their own, one of the options deals with the question: Where do I want to sell my items? Those who choose to open a shop on the Island are found here.

Talk about overkill...

Island Arena

For those who enjoy fighting, Neopets offers fights in the BattleDome. The Island Arena is one of the areas you may go if you wish to fight. You can engage in a friendly match against one of your friends, or you may want to spar with one of the "single player" challengers you can find on the site. Here are a couple of them now:

Ghost Lupe A once brave Lupe knight this ghost is restless, and desperately seeking revenge. He is easily angered so be very careful...
Ryshu the Nimmo A student of the Mystery Island training school, this Nimmo is sleek, graceful, and a dedicated warrior. Beware!

Don't I look ferocious?

Mynci Beach Volleyball

Mystery Island is great, it's hot most of the year, and there is always a beautiful tropical breeze. Why not head down to the beach and play a spot of Volleyball? Mynci Beach Volleyball to be precise!

To play, simply use the arrow keys to go left, right and jump. Hit the ball over the net, and try and make it land in the opponent's court.

Fun in the sun?

Haiku Generator

This is the newest addition to Mystery Island. This talented kougra will create a new haiku for you each day. (Always be sure to compliment kougras...they have very sharp teeth and claws.)

Here is one of the haiku's he has created:

Enemy, full stone
infinity separates thick
their Jetsam arrives.

That's ...erm...INTERESTING...

Gadgad's Game

Celebrate the Mystery Island festival of fruit, Gadgadsbogen by playing this Tetris style puzzle game. What is Gadgadsbogen, you ask? It's the biggest day of the year for Mystery Island fans. Literally translated to mean "good good day," Gadgadsbogen celebrates a phenomenon in which, each year during the month of Running, a number of new fruits mysteriously emerge from the soil to replace some of island's older fruits. During the festival, investors have been known to storm the shops of Mystery Island in hopes of buying the last of the fruits that have been discontinued. Until the arrival of the Gadgadsboden festival, nobody knows what shape or form this year's crop will take.

Throughout the festival, there are parties, feasts, games, and displays. The main theme is to have fun...it's a tourists delight!

The festival concludes when Cinto Pango, an elder from the Pango Tribe, emerges from his hut with a document proclaiming the names of the new fruits.

Love the new fruits...

Neopets - Techo Mountain

Techo Mountain

Nobody knows who carved this mountain, it has been on Mystery Island as long as anybody can remember. People assume the carver was a Techo, who made the mountain in his own likeness.

This was an important area during The Mystery of the Volcano plot.

I wouldn't get closer, it's quite hot up there

Welcome to the Mystery Island Volcano! It was recently discovered that by throwing normal codestones into the volcano you can get special Red Codestones out. These magical stones will help your Neopet advance their skills beyond the training offered at the Training School.

I wonder what will happen if...

Neopets - Techo Mountain

Secret Ninja School in Techo Mountain

Tucked away in a hidden section of Techo Mountain is a dark tunnel leading to a small closed door. If your pet is strong enough and you have the proper red codestones, you can train here. It looks like we'll need to move along before we attract any unwanted attention...

erm, yes...let's move along now.

The Beach

The Beach

Ahhh, what a pleasant place. Anybody for a game of volleyball?

Fun in the sun?

The Beach

The Lost City of Geraptiku

For brave explorers only. Catch them if you can.

On the northern shores of Mystery Island lay the ruins of the Lost City of Geraptiku. Recently discovered by some very curious Neopian archeologists, Geraptiku is an interesting place to explore... if you're brave enough to venture inside.
This new area is starting to reveal some interesting (and creepy) stuff.

I think I'll wait here...have fun...

Geraptiku - Deserted Tomb

Deserted Tomb

Deep within the ruins of Geraptiku lies a tomb that has been deserted for eons. No one knows for sure what lurks inside, but rumours have spread across Mystery Island. Most warn of the creatures said to inhabit the ruins. They say that if you value your life, it's best you stay away.

But others tell of a massive treasure left under the protection of the tomb's many traps. If you can get past these traps, Neopoints by the ton and artifacts like you've never seen are said to be scattered throughout the tomb. So far though, those who have entered to seek such a treasure have yet to return.

What about you? You've been standing at the door of this tomb for a while now. Are you brave enough to open it? Go on. It's just a door, right? There may be riches beyond your wildest dreams waiting for you inside... if risking your life is worth finding out.

The door, being made of stone and all, begins to slide open slowly. Very slowly. You could be here all day...

It finally comes to a stop about halfway up. Figures. It is a very, very old door after all.

You gaze into the darkness beyond the opening and can barely make out a path leading inside. It quickly disappears, giving you no clue as to what may be in store for you if you enter. Without you realizing, your knees begin to shake and your hands begin to tremble. Riches may be waiting for you just beyond this door, but you have a very, very bad feeling about this place.

Most of the time, nothing happens. Sometimes the next step can cause your pet do be hurt or sick. On RARE occasions, you can find something...like this:

You slowly make your way through the opening and into the awaiting darkness. The door slams shut behind you. How unexpected.

---

The tomb presents you with quite a challenge over the next few days. Luckily, you've brought plenty of provisions and have cleverly made your way through every trap you've come across. Your mum would be proud.

Finally, after decyphering all the secrets of the tomb, you're led to the treasure chamber.

EUREKA!

You've found it. You've found the treasure of the Lost City of Geraptiku. People you've met once will now be writing to you asking to borrow Neopoints. It's every Neopian's dream.

You search through the treasure and take back what you can carry.

You also stuff 1,216 Neopoints in your pockets!

I think I'll wait here...have fun...

Geraptiku Petpets

Hidden deep in the Geraptiku ruins is a small Petpet shop... but be careful what you purchase here. Some of these critters have been known to bite.

This timid little creature nibbles on vegitation around the abandoned city of Geraptiku.
The source of many a spooky tale, this poor little fellow is shunned by many a Neopet as it is just too scary looking.
One of the more unusual Petpets that are found around the ruins of Geraptiku.
Incredibly timid, it will take a lot of care and attention to make a Gypmu trust you.

I wonder if they bit the shopkeeper?

The Lost City of Geraptiku Colouring Pages

The Lost City of Geraptiku Colouring Pages

Here are some scenes from The Lost City of Geraptiku. Print them out then colour them in using pens, pencils, crayons, anything you want! Once you have finished you can even put them on the fridge or your wall for all your friends to admire.

Use these as proof of your visit, you brave explorer!

Must you leave so soon?

Harbour

Naturally, since you are on an island, you'll need some way to get back. This ferry has been graciously provided by the Pango tribesmen. Normally, this ferry takes you back to Central Neopia, but we've made special arrangements to charter this ferry to take us to Maraqua, our next stop on the tour. Click on the ferry when you are ready to leave or click here to return to the map at the top.

Next stop?
