| Medieval Meridell
or Return to the world map |
|||
Meridell, the land of heroes and legends, was forgotten by the rest of Neopia until a band of unlikely adventurers discovered a strange link to the past. It started with a game of Hide and Seek, and ended with an invasion. If you missed the story, why not check it out here? Just remember to hit the "back" button to return to the tour.
Currently hovering over Meridell is the evil Citadel of Darigan. Even though the war is over, it looks like it may be here to stay. You can also visit Brightvale, a kingdom ruled by King Hagan the Wise.

Shape Shifter
Sinsi the Ixi, a 12 year old enterprising game designer,
became bored with the games available in Meridell. As she likes to tell
us, "I love my homeland as much as anyone else, but you have
to admit; sometimes, things can get a little dull around Meridell. I mean,
you can only count potatoes or play Cheeseroller so many times. Myself,
I've never been one to just sit around bored; that's why, for as long
as I can remember, I've always stayed busy by creating games for me and
my friends to play." This time around, she created a puzzle
that is mind-numbingly challengingly but has a deceptively simple premise:
Shift the shapes to match the goal. Sound easy? You may want to rethink
that...
Here is a sample game layout:

piece. Whichever pieces are under the shape when you use it will change
to it's alternate shape. To play, place your mouse over the game board.
You will see that the symbols change color to show you where the current
shape will go. (shown below) The whole shape HAS to be completely
on the board to be used. Make sure you check what the active shape is
before you try to place it on the game board.

It takes a good bit of practice, and maybe more than a little luck, to master this game. Neopia doesn't have headache medicine yet, but after a few rounds of this, they may start trying to develop some.

Round Table Poker
Your objective is to win more money, during the course of a set number of hands of poker, than the other four opponents in your tournament round. Once those four opponents have been defeated, you'll advance to the next round. As you move on to higher tournament levels, the rewards, as well as your opponents' skill, will continue to increase. Also, watch your opponents' faces closely- it may help you decide to bet or fold. Have fun and good luck!

Merifoods
Hearty snacks from the land of Meridell!
Give your neopet a medieval themed morsel. Before there were elaborate foods and impressive china, neopets dined on more rustic items. Gruel, Stone Soup, fresh hot Yeasty Bread...these basic rations kept the neopets working (usually in the hopes of a better future).

Mysterious Symol Hole
In Meridell, next to a gnarled old tree there is a mysteriously deep hole. It was probably dug by a Symol, as it is only big enough for a Petpet to go through. Do you want to let your Petpet go in and investigate?
Of course, you must have a petpet for this to work, right Giggler?
Giggler chirps.
There are 5 different ways to direct your petpet to enter the hole:
Once you make the choice, you may get one of these items (or nothing at all):

Turmaculus
Legends speak of a petpet a who had a gigantic appetite. As he ate, he grew, and as he grew, he ate... until one day this colossal petpet could not move any more. The Turmaculus can be found in the land of Meridell, sleeping nearly 24 hours a day. If you can wake him up, chances are he may be able to help you with an item, or a healing spell... just don't catch him in a bad mood (yes, he really does eat petpets).

The cute little turmac
Turmaculus is Meridell's answer to the Snowager. Like the snowager, he can do good things,
bad things, or nothing. Unlike the snowager, he only deals with petpets.
That means that to try to wake him, your active pet must
have a petpet.
How do you wake him? First, your active pet must have a petpet. Because
he is a giant petpet (turmac) himself, Turmaculus will only interact with
other petpets. Select an option from the drop down menu and cross your
fingers. The options are as follows:
Hit
him with a stick
Ring a bell
Kick him
Sing to him
Tap dance for him
Blow your nose
Sneeze
Dump cold water on him
Scream
Bang pots and pans
What do you get when wake him? As far as I can tell, it largely depends
on how you try to wake him. When you wake him in a pleasant manner (like
singing) then you can get np, rare items, or the big prize (imho): have
your petpets level raised. On the other hand, if you wake him up
by kicking him then hes liable to be in a foul mood and do something
bad like eat your petpet.

If you are fortunate enough to wake him and he raises the level of your petpet, do not remove that petpet from your pet or the petpets level will return to Level 1. The level of your petpet now is important in the Battledome. The total damage your pets attack causes is determined by the attack multiplied the level of the petpet. For example if your pet would normally do 10 points (a.k.a. icons) of damage and owns a level three petpet, your pet will now do 30 points of damage.

Kiss The Mortog
To play Kiss the Mortog you need 50 NP. Simply click on the Mortog you think is the prince (or princess). If you are lucky, you win Neopoints - you can collect those Neopoints or continue. Unfortunately non-magical Mortogs HATE being kissed... and explode as a result. When this happens you lose ALL the Neopoints you would have won. Simple eh?

Bullseye
You have ten shots to try and hit the bullseye in this medieval game of skill and timing.
Use the up and down arrow keys for the Turtum to move the crossbow, keep the Space Bar down to build up power, and then release it to fire.
If you manage to get a bullseye on the last shot, you can keep on firing until you miss.
It's never the same game twice. Hope you are good with angles or you will be in for a rough time.
Good luck!

Turdle Racing
Neopets come from all across Neopia to cheer, and even bet on their favourite Turdle. Turdles, in case you have only seen Earth equivalents, are special Meridell PetPets.
This scorchio will be happy to take your bet...feeling lucky? Of course, you'll want to know more about the turdles, before betting.

Illusen's Glade
As in other areas of Neopia, it appears that there is a resident who wants to give you a chance to complete a quest in exchange for items. Illusen is an earth faerie who really dislikes Jhudora so much that she can sense anyone who has recently helped her. Let's drop by for a quick visit...
Illusen says 'Welcome to my home...'
I've been living in Meridell for years now, it's so peaceful and serene (and I get to be as far away from those Dark Faeries as possible!) Anyway, I have a couple of jobs that you may be interested in. If you can fetch me some items from around Neopia, I can reward you with some of these cool things I have made over the years... aren't they pretty!

How about we start off with a few easy errands, and go from there. I don't want to waste TOO much of your time but I really do have to get these items you know...
Unfortunately, if you don't find my item within the time limit, then I'm going to put you right back on the easy quests! Interested??
The rules are similar to Jhudora's quest, but let's not mention that to Illusen. These two really don't like each other and it's not wise to let her know you've been to see Jhudora.

MeriAcres
Welcome to Meri Acres farm. Medieval games and attractions were just a bit different from modern day Neopia, so let's take a look at what medieval Neopets did for fun.
Meri Acres Farm - Pick Your Own
This is what we call 'Pick Your Own'. 200 Neopoints gets you your punnet, and it can hold up to 6 berries. Go around my farm by using the red arrows. When you want to search for berries, simply click on the map and see what you find.
Oh, there is a time limit too... once you have visited 20 areas of the farm i'm afraid it's time to come back and let somebody else have a go!

Attack of the Slorgs
Meridell has long been known as the home to some of the finest fruits and vegetables in the whole of Neopia. At least that is true most of the time, for when the icky, nasty Slorgs decide they are hungry there is not a farmer in the land who can stop them.

In Attack of the Slorgs you play a resourceful Yurble farmer who has decided to take things into his own hands. You have spent the last few weeks making your Slorgeriser X4, a machine that spits out balls of Slorg-B-Gone.
Slorgs can only be repelled by balls of Slorg-B-Gone that are the same colour as them, and it has to be at least three of them at a time. If you fail to repel the Slorgs, they will increase in number - so watch out! Use the arrow keys to aim the Slorgeriser right and left, and press the Space Bar to fire.
Good luck!

Potato Counter
In the land of Meridell, fun games are few and far between... in fact most of the time the residents have to make up their own games to pass the time... That may be the inspiration behind this game. This farmer will dump out some potatoes from his sack and it's up to you to count them.
The faster you count them, the more neopoints you earn...but if you count them incorrectly, you win nothing. Happy counting!

Don't
confuse this game with EXTREME Potato Counter...![]()
![]()

![]()
EXTREME Potato Counter
Prepare to be stumped...or mashed...or baked.
A punkish Wocky sticks his head out from behind a pile of potatoes and beckons you to come closer.
"You thought potato counting was boring, eh? Think again. It's back, it's awesome, and its totally tuber-ler!
Some totally radical potatoes are going to fly past the screen, and I want you to tell me how many you saw. Easy, huh? Now get counting!"
This game is sure to French Fry your brains...

Guess the Weight of the Marrow

This is a picture of the farmer with his prize-winning marrow, 'Old Bessie', the biggest Marrow ever grown in these parts, and most probably the whole of Neopia, all 100 tons of her. In honour of her memory, the farmers of Meridell have a daily guessing competition of the weight of the biggest marrow grown on the farm on each day.

As a quick clue, the marrows usually weigh anywhere between 200 and 800 pounds (yes they are very heavy!) The first 10 people to guess the correct weight will receive a prize.

Just outside of Meri Acres farm is a big pile of rubbish - it's where people go to get rid of stuff that has started to smell SO bad they don't want to be near it any more. It works much the same as the Money Tree but there is a very small chance you may find a really really rare artifact. Have a look through, you may find some exciting stuff! Mostly, all you'll find are leftovers, like these:
![]() Old Croutons (donated by Farmer Sid) |
![]() Meridell Gravy (donated by Meridell Castle Cleaners) |
![]() Pile of Dung (donated by Farmer Joe) |
![]() Strange Green Seeds (donated by Farmer Boggins) |
Once in a while, however, you'll find something worth noting. Just be ready to click quickly, or someone else will grab it.
Meridell Castle
Welcome to the castle of King Skarl, monarch of the whole of Meridell. Skarl wisely rules the land, with the help of his top knights and peasant militia. Take a look in the castle if you want.
Double or Nothing
As we are passing through the castle corridors, the Royal Treasurer beckons to us.
Hows about a game with old Snargan?
To play Double or Nothing all you needs to hand Snargan the Castle Treasurer 10 NP, thats all it costs to play. Click on the coin to toss it. If it's heads you double your cash, and you can keep going as many times as you want. If it's tails then Snargan keeps yer cash!
Feeling lucky?

Kayla's Potions
It seems that Kayla has made quite a name for herself because of her successful concoctions during the Battle for Meridell campaign. Unfortunately I've heard a few rumors...some potions work better than others. Should you be willing to risk it, here are a few samples of what she might be brewing:

Meriball
One of the first things Lisha and her friends do when they arrive in Meridell is play the national sport - Meriball!
Use the arrow keys to control Lisha, and the Space Bar to serve and hit the ball back at your opponent. The aim of the game is to be the last person to have hit the ball before it goes off the screen. Make sure you pick up the power ups, and watch out for the burrowing Symols.

Grumpy Old King
King Skarl is not happy. (Would you be happy if everything in your kingdom
was destroyed by the forces of Darigan?)
Why don't you try cheering him up? Tell him a joke using the options provided.
If he likes it, you may get a faboo prize. *Ooohhh* If he doesn't like
it... who knows what will happen. He's been an angry sort of fellow lately.
You can try once a day, so why not give it a shot...

Escape from Meridell Castle
Valrigard the Draik was a noble and brave warrior. He defended the castle from invaders many times and was a personal friend of King Skarl, himself.Three years ago, that changed. He was betrayed and framed by one of King Skarl's advisors and has been imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. Can you help him Escape from Meridell Castle?
Use the arrow keys to fly and walk the platforms. Be careful to watch your energy meter, if it runs out Valrigard will not be able to sustain flight. The Space Bar controls your sword, and it will work on most enemies. Good luck!

Invasion of Meridell
You most probably didn't know this, but a long time ago, when King Skarl was young, some unwelcome visitors came a-knocking on Castle Meridell's walls. Evil, twisted, mutated creatures with wings, hooves and other spiky bits flew down from above intent on turning the pleasant land of Meridell into a smoking crater.
Of course, the invaders were defeated, by the help of the villagers who took up arms to fend them away. Now you get the chance to recreate this historic battle by playing Invasion of Meridell - 300 BN. Control the good guys, and defeat the bad guys, and win a nice trophy for your user lookup. You may win the battle, but can you win the war?
Darigan Citadel
To the North of Meridell, to the far far north, a gigantic, stone citadel has been spotted. A monolith of what we can only assume to be evil, it hangs forebodingly in the air. Despite two previous wars, both the citizens of Darigan's Citadel and Meridell are currently at peace.

PetPet Arena
Why should only pets get to battle? Train your petpets so they can help your pets fight. The level of your petpet now is important in the Battledome. The total damage your pet’s attack causes is determined by the attack multiplied the level of the petpet. For example if your pet would normally do 10 points (a.k.a. “icons”) of damage and owns a level three petpet, your pet will now do 30 points of damage.

Note that your petpets only improve your attacks against other
users. It won't help against single player challengers like Balthazaar.

Something about these toys don't seem quite right, but I just can't put my finger on it... Anyway, this friendly looking looking shopkeeper would love to sell you some of his wares.

Lord Darigan's Chambers
Current status with Meridell : TRUCE
There is much to be done in the citadel. Lord Darigan is hard at work trying to restore the peace and make his people see the error of their ways. Rebuilding his kingdom after the Kass's treachery is going to take a while.

CellBlock
In the dungeons of the Darigan Citadel an eccentric (and, of course, evil) prison warden, Master Vex, forces his inmates to play a game of his invention - Cellblock. He keeps telling the prisoners that if anybody can ever beat him they will be freed from the dungeon, but nobody has ever won a single game against him... which is most probably a good thing, as he is lying through his teeth...
To win, you must get five of your game pieces in a straight line.
To advance levels you must win the majority of the games you play.
Here are the players you can challenge:
|
Prisoner One - Clop Nobody knows Clop's real name, in fact nobody knows much about Clop at all because his only method of communicating is to bang his hooves on the floor. The other prisoners have assumed that one is yes, and two is no, they think three is 'Im hungry', and have absolutely no idea what four and five mean at all! |
|
Prisoner Two - Barallus Why they keep Barallus under such tight security has always confused the other prisoners, as how could a puny little Korbat overcome the guards in order to escape? Maybe Lord Darigan knows something that nobody else does... |
|
Prisoner Three - Squire Meekel Meekel never wanted to be a knight, but when Skarl promised fame, and fortune, he signed up. Unfortunately as soon as he stepped onto the battlefield a pair of Draconian Skeiths swooped down and carried him off to eat for their lunch. He isn't sure why he hasn't been eaten yet, but has started to become suspicious of the large plates of food the guards feed him every day... |
|
Prisoner Four - The Yellow Knight Not as well known as his brother the Green Knight, the Yellow Knight attempted a solo assault of the Darigan Citadel a week before the battle began. Unfortunately for him, his heroic antics ended him up in jail (he didn't even get the free t-shirt!) |
|
Prisoner Five - Number Five Known only by his prisoner number, Number Five is an insane old Lupe who keeps banging his stick against the wall and shouting things about Jelly World. We all know that Jelly World doesn't really exist, so its a good thing this madman is locked away! |
|
Guard One - Galgarrath Galgarrath believes that the prisoners should not be allowed to play games, however he keeps playing them to keep Master Vex happy. He is a particularly clever player, beware of his three-in-a-row dual kougra smash and diagonal kiko uppercut moves. |
|
Guard Two - Haskol Haskol wins most of the Cellblock games he plays, mainly due to the fact that whenever he loses he tends to throw a bit of a tantrum... so if you want to keep your arms intact it is highly recommended to let the Skeith win! |
|
The Warden - Master Vex Master Vex is a prison warden who is incredibly bored. Lord Darigan has entrusted him to keep his dungeons safe and secure, however this is a full time job, and Vex rarely gets to see any daylight at all. To pass the time Vex invented the game of Cellblock, oh... did we mention he has never lost a game? |

Welcome, scholars and scholaresses to the Wheel of Knowledge. You could win Neopoints, an item, or even our grand prize - wisdom from the mouth of King Hagan himself. Let the enlightenment begin!
If you have 500 np burning a hole in your tunic, why not give this a spin? In addition to items, you can sometimes get helpful game tips or Easter eggs. Here are a few that I have come across:

"Did you know if you go to Coltzan's shrine 55 seconds past the minute you get a dubloon?"
"If you type "stardust" while playing Faerie Bubbles, the current bubble becomes a Nova Bubble!"
"Type 'kougra' while playing Frumball to skip a level, although your points will get reset."
"Type "pyramibread" as many times as
you'd like while playing Sutek's Tomb to see the next possible move."
