Krawk Island: a pirate's paradise |
|||
Location : 48 km SW of Mystery Island
Population : 4,319 (72% pirate, 11% Krawk,
14% landlubbin' tourists, 3% other)
Area : 245 sq. km
Weather : Tropical, with occasional
high winds and showers
Terrain : Sandy beaches and fungus-lined caves
Government : Martial Law
Krawk Island, about 80 miles south of the larger Mystery Island, was named because of its strange inhabitants, the Krawks.

Aside from these strange lizard-like creatures, Krawk was a desolate rock, until a few years ago when a gang of pirates on the run from the law landed and settled. Since then it has become very popular with all manner of undesirable citizens...

Deckball
Its Pawkeet against Mirgle in this deck-top battle of the Petpets. A disused pirate galleon off the coast of Krawk Island is home to the fabulous game of Deckball. You can earn different amounts of Neopoints depending on what type game you play.
You'll want to pay close attention to how it's played, so here is a screen shot of the instructions.
This game became so popular with Neopians that there was even a special champoinship held. Click here to read about the Krawk Cup competition that Neopets held in the month of Gathering, Year 3.
Pawkeets and Mirgles are Pirate PetPets that you might be able to snatch up at the Little Nippers petpet shop.

Krawk Cup
Neopets held a special Deckball championship for the staff in the month of Gathering, Year 3. We were asked to make one FREE guess on the eventual champion. If you were right then they gave you with a great trophy for your user lookup page.

Click here to view the Neopets page that tells all about the Krawk Cup competition.

Fungus Cave
You have entered a dark dank cave with lots of fungus all over. It is cold and you start to shiver. There does not appear to be anything of interest in this cave...unless you brought along a Krawk petpet.
You may be wondering how to get a Krawk petpet without using a morphing potion on another pet. Here is what you will need to do:

Smuggler's Cove
At the bottom of a cliff in Krawk Island lies a cave, a place where smugglers can sell their ill-gotten gains. Rare items from all over Neopia can be found here, at a price. Smugglers only take dubloons, the official currency of Krawk Island, so be sure to bring some with you.

Only twenty of each item is ever stocked in the cove and you never know when they will have something hidden there. You'll just have to keep checking back.
Here are a few items that they've had in the past:

Once they have sold out of an item, they almost never restock that item...you better be quick if you want one.

Dubloon O Matic
This strange machine lets you exchange your Dubloons for higher denomination coins. Please make sure you enter the exact amount of Dubloons. You cannot get smaller coins. For example, you can put in two One Dubloon Coins to get one Two Dubloon Coin, but you cannot put it one Two Dubloon Coin and get two One Dubloon Coins.

Little Nippers
A passing pirate sees us heading for this shop and says:
If ye had the misfortune of makin' the trip to Krawk Island alone, then chances are yer feelin' a little lonely by now... well cheer up, matey! Loaded with a fine assortment of Weewoos, Deavers and Plathydons, a trip to the Little Nippers shop is just the trick to lift yer spirits!

Admiral Kyrwinne is the one legged swashbucklers in charge of this fine shop. When asked why he prefers to make an honest living selling petpets rather than joining his pirate peers, he'll gladly recount how his life was saved by petpets after a storm destroyed his ship and cast him ashore.
As with other areas of Krawk Island, you must have dubloons to buy petpets from this shop. Here are a few examples:

Because of his attachment to his friends, don't expect the admiral to sell them for a discount. He wants to be sure that you can afford to spoil the petpet before he sells it to you.

Food Club
Situated on a small lagoon are several "eating areas" for pirates with stomachs of steel...or maybe steel wool. At Foodclub, the object of the game is to place bets on the pirate(s) that you think will win in an eating competition. You must be wise in your decisions, as there are many factors that need to be taken into account when placing your bet. There are twenty pirates that compete in each round. Each round consists of five matches with four pirates each, which are held in one of the five arenas.
Betting is not as straighforward as you might think. When you are placing bets, you need to remember that there are many different things to take into consideration. If you are simply using their win/loss record, you are bound to lose a lot of NeoPoints. First thing to do is to take a look at each pirate in the match. You should do some comparisons between their strength(stamina) and their weights. Also, more importantly, look at the foods that could possibly be served for the match. If you place a bet on a strong pirate, but he happens to be allergic to many of the foods that could be served for his match, you are almost guaranteed to lose! To research the possible food courses for a match, simply click on the Next Round link and choose which match you want to look up.
Below are all of the foods that are served in Food Club. You should probably pay attention to the foods that a match will be serving, since pirates can be picky eaters. A pirate may not do so well if they are allergic to the food they are eating!

Krawk Fashions

If you can get your hands on a rare Pirate Paint Brush, you can paint your NeoPet with one of these Swashbuckling-themed new outfits. If your Neopet likes to hang around on Krawk Island, it is only fitting that he or she should wear some of the latest 'Krawk Couture'. Keep in mind that to actually use a paint brush, you need to take it to the Rainbow Pool. Take a look at some of these great pets:

Armada
Two elderly pirates sit here glaring angrily at each other. They seem to be moving a fleet of small wooden ships around a board... I wonder what they are doing?
Armada is an ancient multiplayer game played by two battle weary pirates after they were too old to sail the seas. If you want to play it, you'll need a partner.
There are two possible moves in Armada. You can click on your piece and then click on any adjoining empty space or you can "jump" any adjoining space. A jump will actually move your piece to the new space. Non-jump moves create a new piece.
All of your opponents pieces that are adjacent to your move are taken captive and brought into your Armada. To win you need to have a larger fleet than your opponent when all spaces are filled or one of you has no further moves.
Treasure of the Black Pawkeet
It is said that many years ago, the captain of the notorious pirate ship The Black Pawkeet, ol' Cap'n Bloodhook was tossed overboard in a storm. Everybody thought he had died, but his crewmates were a bit wary of ol' Bloodhook, knowing that he could survive anything nature threw at him. His crewmates formulated a plan... they would take all the treasure from the ship and bury it somewhere in Krawk Island. If he ever came back they would say they were raided and the treasure was stolen...
It just so happened that Bloodhook had survived, and he had found out what his mutinous crew had done. When he climbed back on board he gave a thunderous roar and leapt to the attack... not a single person other than Bloodhook survived that bloody battle. The secret of where his treasure was buried was lost forever... until now.
If you feel lucky, you can draw out one piece of paper ever three hours...and hopefully win something. It costs 200 neopoints to try.

Swashbuckling Academy
Welcome to Cap'n Threelegs Swashbuckling Academy. Whether tis a quick lesson ye need, or ye wish to stay for a week and master yer skills, there be only three rules :

Ye don't have dubloons? What kind of Swashbuckler comes to Krawk Island and doesn't bring dubloons?!
After decades on the high seas, Cap'n Threelegs has finally given up his plundering ways to become head of the Swashbuckling Academy. In exchange for accepting a job with the academy, Threelegs was granted a full Act of Pardon, which cleared him of any prosecution stemming from his days pillaging abroad. Now, this elder swashbuckler is able to pass on the wisdom of the seas to a new generation of buccaneers. In fact, he is known to possess a surprising amount of generosity. On your pet's special day (the day of the year set aside to honor your pet's species) he will give free training all day.

Krawps
Underneath the Golden Dubloon restaurant is a dingy, small little room used solely for gambling. Only one game is played - Krawps, possibly the most confusing game ever to hit the shores of Krawk Island, or, well.. the whole of Neopia for that matter.
There simply aren't enough Dubloons around to play this game, so the pirates
gladly accept Neopoints
Krawps is a dice game where you place different bets on different areas
of the table, and hope the dice are in your favour!
This game can be very confusing, so be sure you read and understand the rules before you begin. When dealing with pirates, it pays to be ahead of the learning curve...

Krawk Island Colouring Pages
Here are some things you might see everyday around Krawk Island. Print them out then colour them in using pens, pencils, crayons, anything you want! Once you have finished you can even put them on the fridge or your wall for all your friends to admire.

The Golden Dubloon
As we walk in, Captain Hackett himself comes over to greet
us.

WELCOME TO ME RESTAURANT!!!!
Pull up a chair and have a bite to eat! Before ye get started, let me fill you in on a bit o' how this works:
This be a small restaurant and I will not have too many people in here at once. If the Golden Dubloon gets above a certain occupancy then no more pets will be allowed. Also, you are only allowed to bring one pet in at a time. Lastly, if you dawdle for over 15 minutes without scoffing yer food, Ill throw yer out without a warning!
Confused on how to go about buying yer food? Listen carefully... Go to the different menus. There are four different menus, each one with loads of tasty morsels for ya scoffing. Find ONE food from each menu that you wish to order. Ye can only buy one item from each menu!
Once ye've clicked on the images of the foods ya want, go to the EAT! page and all of the items you have selected will be listed there with the prices. Remember, we only accept Dubloons on Krawk Island!
If you change yer mind, ye can delete items from your list by clicking the Delete button on the EAT! page. When ye be ready for the meal, hit the button below and get chuffing! Ye never know, if yer pet can't finish it, ill box the food for yer to take home!
Since JC is a little hungry, let all stop for a quick snack. Here is the appetizer menu:
I think I'll order the Caesar Salad. It's really fresh here.

Deckswabber
Ahoy me hearties, swab the deck turning all the squares the same colour gathering loot as you go. Collect the gold, the chests, and the magical puzzle boxes, but avoid the scurvy brutes at all costs, lest ye meet ya doom!
If you ever played the old Q-Bert game, you know how to play this one. Jump on the sqares to change the color and turn them all to the color listed as the "goal". Watch out for the pirates and cannons...and try to stay out of the water. Shelter behind the sword to protect yourself. Collect treasure for more points and grab the flag to heal. Be quick, though...not only do you get bonuses for time, but there are evil crates that will change some of the sqares back to their original brown color if you don't get to them fast enough.

Bilge Dice
Bilge Dice is the latest and greatest dice game to hit Neopia! It takes a little bit of luck and a little bit of strategy to really master. Players take turns rolling a series of dice and the one with the highest total in the end is the winner. There is one catch - players must have secured a roll of 1 and a roll of 4 before the end in order for the player's score to count.
Players begin by rolling six dice. Each turn, you must select one or more dice to remove and be placed in the scoring pool. Once you have kept at least one die, the choice of re-rolling the remaining dice becomes available. If you re-roll the dice, you must keep at least one die before being able to re-roll again. In essence, you choose one or more dice to keep each round until no dice remain.

Dubloon Disaster
After a successful raid on Krawk Harbour a small pirate ship tries to escape... however they didnt count on the Black Pawkeet, the most feared pirate ship of all.
You play Dorak, an enterprising young Krawk in a rowing boat. Try and salvage as much of the treasure as possible, but avoid the homing mines that are being fired from the Black Pawkeet. Use the left and right arrow keys to turn, up arrow key to accelerate and the down arrow key to reverse.
Who is Dorak? Why does he spend so much time in a rowboat? Well, let's just ask him, shall we?
"Heh, what else am I supposed to do? Ride a bike in the sand?" Dorak says, standing on the shore of Krawk Harbour.
"When I was little I wanted to be just like Cap'n Threelegs and sail on a pirate ship, search for treasure and make friends with Samuel No Eyes and the Fontaine Sisters, so my mum and dad bought me this here row boat. You like?
There's just one problem...I'm the only Krawk in Neopia who can't swim. So, what was I to do?
My dad said something to my mum that changed my life forever: "What do you mean you don't have any dubloons left?! Oh, you bought another bathing suit... I see."
Dubloons... it just clicked in my head and I could instantly smell them. I realised that there's a fortune to be made in our very own harbour, and that I wouldn't have to go very far to strike it rich. All I had to do was take my rowboat out into the water and hope I wouldn't sink or swim. Convincing myself was the easy part, especially knowing that there's millions and millions of dubloons waiting for you just below the surface."
Thank you, Dorak. Happy hunting...and buy a life vest!
