or Return to the world map |

The Lost Desert and its cities
Location : 280 km SW of Neopia Central
Population : approximately 346,000 (27% Elephante,
22% Nimmo, 20% Lupe, 11% Aisha, 9% Kacheek, 7% Peophin, 4% Other)
Area : 480 sq. km
Weather : There is a high probability of sunshine,
and it's HOT, with severe sand and dust storms
Terrain : Sandy with small traces of Stone, Ore, and
Bug Carcasses
Government : Hereditary Rulers
On the edge of the Haunted Woods, tucked away from the bustle of most of Neopia is the fabled Lost Desert. The Lost Desert was only rediscovered in a weird twist of fate and circumstances. Lost for who knows how long, it's rediscovery by Brucey B. and his friends has literally opened up a new world for us. In fact, if he hadn't found that lucky coin, there's no telling when or even if the Lost Desert would have been found. Of course, considering the later invasion and death of their beloved ruler, they may have wished to remain lost...
Lucky Coin? You mean you haven't heard the story of Brucey B and his lucky coin? Well, as you know, Brucey B was the most unlucky Cheat player of all times. That is, he WAS...until the Third Annual Cheat Contest. Brucey B began the competition on a lucky streak. He picked up the right cards and made all the right moves. His smiles began to turn into chuckles, and his chuckles began to turn into laughter... tonight was his night... nobody could beat him! With the help of his coin, Brucey breezed through the quarter finals, the semi finals, and then to the final itself. He could not believe his luck, he would imagine a card in his head, and it would be the next card he picked up, every time! The final was over in 20 minutes, and Brucey had demolished both his opponents. Life was good...for a while...

He was invited to a "special" Cheat game, where he was cheated out of his coin. Thus began the search for the coin. Brucey and his friends finally consulted the Brain Tree, who told them they must go beyond the Haunted Woods to find it. As they emerged from the thick forest, they couldn't believe what they saw. Shielding their eyes from the blinding light they could just make out what appeared to be a vast plain. In the distance was what appeared to be sand dunes...and a city?

They do eventually find the coin thief...as well as more than they bargained for...
You can read the full Brucey B and the Lucky Coin by clicking here.
In addition to the fabled city of Sakhmet, the ruins of Qasala have become habitable with the conclusion of the 2005 Lost Desert Plot.

Pyramids
One of the oldest and greatest form of solitaire, this is quite possibly my favorite game (and not just because it has a Desert Aisha for the mascot). If you are not familiar with this game, you may want to take a peek at our Pyramids Game Guide...just be sure to hit the back button to return to the tour.
There are two ways to win trophies here...total high score, and my personal favorite, clearing the pyramid.

Sutek's Tomb
Legend has it that there was an ancient Geb named Sutek. He was stronger, fitter, and cleverer than the other Gebs, and was praised by all for his courage and wisdom. When he died, they built him a tomb that was the same shape as him (known as a Gebmid). It had four triangular sides, and a square base. There are now many Gebmids around the Lost Desert, but Sutek's was the first.

To stop people getting at Sutek's riches (millions of Neopoints), his advisors placed a combination lock on the tomb. Strange symbols adorned an impassable door. For the person who could figure out the pattern to unlock the tomb, well, he would be the wealthiest person alive!
After Neopian archaeologists uncovered Sutek's Tomb, a horde of theories and speculations surfaced about "the lost Geb culture."
"Someone built the Gebmids," Sarina Salen, the world famous Aisha archaeologist said. "And I'm going to find out who did it." Even now she's down in the Tomb puzzling out the strange locks and puzzles left behind by whomever built the mysterious Gebmids.

Coltzan's Shine
Ahhhhhh...the mysterious Coltzan's Shrine. Standing at the peak of a sand dune you see a tall monolith covered with strange heiroglyphics. It is the Shrine of the late King Coltzan III. It was one of his last wishes that his ancient magical crown be placed in the shrine, for its power will protect the whole of the Lost Desert from harm. His spirit still inhabits the shrine, and if you approach, he may grant you something to help you in your battles.

Those of you who are unfamiliar with the history of the Lost Desert may be wondering just who is Coltzan. King Coltzan III was a brave and just warrior who governed The Lost Desert with a kind heart and generous soul for many years. His legendary status as a noble defender of The Lost Desert grew as the tales of his heroic deeds spread throughout the land. There isn't a single Sakhmetian alive who has not heard the tale of how Coltzan defeated a savage Monocerous with his bare paws, or of the time Coltzan rescued Princess Lightfoot from the clutches of the nefarious Baron Nehlaki, a story which is recounted in Sakhmet Tales a popular anthology of Sakhmetian folklore.

Of course, we are lucky to have the shrine at all...on the day of the dedication ceremony, the crown was stolen. This touched off a huge search that had all of Neopia turned upside down. Our first clue was the note apparently left by the two Meerca thieves. If you look carefully, the foolish Meerca had signed his name at the bottom - Heermeedjet. From there, however, it was a confusing trail full of red herrings and parrots...

In the end, the crown was found and returned to Princess Vyssa. Now the Shrine can be visited every twelve hours in the hopes that your pet might be blessed by King Coltzan. For those of you wanting to see the full story about the search for the crown, you can view it here: http://www.neopets.com/desert/crown_solution.phtml

Swarm
We have been fortunate enough to come across a document explaining the importance of Neopian Protection Zone 6b. Hop in your specially-designed Wocky Tank and blast those bugs!!! (You may want to take a peek at our Swarm game guide.) Of course, we at TNE will disavow any knowledge of the document I am about to show you...
WARNING: This is a TOP SECRET - EYES ONLY document containing information essential to the national security of Neopia. EYES ONLY ACCESS to the material herein is strictly limited to those possessing Protection Zone 6b clearance level. Reproduction in any form or the taking of written or mechanically transcribed notes is strictly forbidden.
EYES ONLY COPY ONE OF ONE
On 25th day of Hunting, Y3, a civilian Shoyru was flying over Neopia and observed many flying bug-shaped aircrafts traveling in formation at a high rate of speed. Hundreds of reports of sightings of similar objects followed. Many of these came from highly credible military and civilian sources. These reports resulted in independent efforts by several different elements of the Tyrannian Army to determine the nature and purpose of these objects in the interests of Neopian Defense. A number of witnesses were interviewed and there were several unsuccessful attempts to utilise Dung Catapults in efforts to pursue reported bug-shaped objects in flight. Public reaction bordered on near hysteria at times.
In spite of these efforts, little of substance was learned about the bug-shaped objects until a local Wocky, who has constructed his own tank to protect himself, reported that several thousand had crashed in a remote region of The Lost Desert located approximately eighty-three kilometres west of Sakhmet. He was brave enough to sit there and sketch a drawing of one (See photo below).
Since it is virtually certain that these bug-shape crafts did not originate in Neopia, considerable speculation has centered around what their point of origin might be and how they got here. Sloth's lab was and still remains a possibility, although some experts, most notably Professor Chesterpot, consider it more likely that we are dealing with beings from another world entirely.
At the same time, emergency plan FQ-3-8436b/PZ (Top Secret Eyes Only) should be held in continued readiness should the need to make a public announcement present itself. NOTE: This document has been prepared as a briefing only. It should be regarded as introductory to a full operations briefing intended to follow very soon.
EYES ONLY FQS-EXEMPT (NP)
Tug Of War
In this game you play Brucey B. Tap the keys to pull your opponent into the river!!! Can you defeat the mysterious Jetsam and collect all the passwords? You think this game sounds pretty straightforward, but as with most things in Neopia there is a hidden catch. Before you play this, you may want to drop by our Tug Of War game guide. Be sure to hit the "back" button to return to the tour.
The bustling city of Sakhmet is steeped in tradition and commerce. Its bazaar area is full of shops and games so that there is something for every Neopian to enjoy...just be sure to use a hat and/or sunscreen.

Peopatra's Pet Pets
This kind hearted Desert Peophin takes sick and injured or just lost petpets under her care until loving homes can be found for them. She first got her start nursing an abandoned Wadjet back to health and by then end of the month she had become the equivalent of the Desert Animal Shelter. Even though it is quite a financial burden, she will quickly tell you that it's worth it simply because, "I can't stand the thought of my beloved Petpets starving in the streets."

After a few years of working from home, Peopatra finally raised the funds to open the Petpet Stall, which is THE place to go if your search for a Petpet has led you to The Lost Desert. Here are some of the rare petpets you might be able to find here:

Osiri's Pottery
Looking to add some style and class to your NeoHome? Come buy some lovely trinkets at Osiri's Pottery store. Buy a simple urn so you won't keep getting asked, "What's with that gray dust lying on your table?" Or how about a lovely jug from which to serve a delicious glass of water? Plus, it's worth a stop at the shop just to ask Osiri where she gets her hair done. Many questioned Osiri's intentions (and her sanity) when she decided to open her pottery shop in the middle of the Lost Desert. But nobody could get her to change her mind. I think it has something to do with the lack of humidity...she'll go to any length to keep her hair looking nice...
Anyway, here are a few of the items you might find in her shop:

| Long Handled Pan |

Even though her pieces are expensive, Lady Osiri proudly stands behind the quality of the workmanship...or more precisely, stands in front of her wares so everyone can admire her hair.

Sakhmet Solitaire
This is the classic form of Solitaire that almost everyone knows (and loves). The Desert Chomby would love to see you win one of two trophies...the total high score or the bonus trophy for clearing all the cards. This is a great way to kill time...err...I mean to practice pattern recognition...

Scarab 21
Play the cards in any of the five columns in order to get the column's sum to be 21! In addition to the standard scoring possibilities, there are many hidden bonus plays and their payoff can be quite large. If you are unfamiliar with how the game plays, be sure to click on the Rules button. This is one of the many forms of Solitaire you can play...fun and addictive with two ways to win trophies: Single Game high scores and Overall game high scores.

Lost Desert Medicine
The finest cures in the entire Lost Desert!
This shop was first introduced in the Hannah and the Ice Caves Plot where Hannah strives for help with the curse she's been placed under. Here are some of the helpful items you may want to stock up on:

Desert Battle Supplies
It's a hot and often thankless job to track down the rare battle supplies in the Lost Desert, so what drives this shopkeeper to keep searching the scorching sands for items.

"Why would I do it?" Remnok asks, scratching his chin and arching his head, as if pondering deeply. "Let's see. Is it the endless walks in the blistering heat? Could it be that I LIKE being homeless with nothing to eat for days at a time? Or maybe," he pauses, then says with a grin, "it's the joy I get when I gaze into the eyes of some unsuspecting sap, and say, 'I'll be perfectly honest... this dagger of yours, it's hardly worth six or seven hundred Neopoints. However, because I came ALL THE WAY out here, and I don't want to leave empty handed, I'll give you a thousand points for it. Is it a deal?' That's when, nodding like a puppet on a string, they utter those words that I long to hear: 'It's a deal.' THAT'S the reason why I do it!
*cough* erm, well...
Anyway, as you can see, there are all sorts of items you can choose from in this shop:

Geos
Bomb or build? That's just one of the choices you'll have to make in Geos. Geos is a two player game where you attempt to complete all four geometric shapes before your opponent. If you land on one of your opponents space that is NOT part of a completed shape, that space is cleared and you get to move again. If you land on one of your opponents spaces that IS part of a completed shape you lose that turn.
Did I mention that you can't see your opponents pieces? That's what makes it interesting.

Fruit Machine
Roll Up... Roll Up, its the one and only Neopet Fruit Machine. Every day you can get one free spin, if the first two fruits match you win a prize. If all three fruits match you win a really big prize! Let's see how we do...
Sorry! This is not a winning spin.
I hope you have better luck tomorrow!
*sigh* Oh well, keep trying. Remember, this is one of the great freebies offered on the site that you can play each day.

Paint Brush Stall

If you can get your hands on a rare Desert Paintbrush, you can paint your NeoPet with one of these great new outfits. Keep in mind that to actually use a paint brush, you need to take it to the Rainbow Pool. In addition to the Desert Aisha (like JC), take a look at some of these great pets:

Sakhmet Palace
From Monday 9th Swimming, Yr 3 to Friday 13th Swimming, Yr 3, there was a special investigation. The game was called "Usurper". Usurper was a murder mystery set in the Royal Palace of Sakhmet. The king had collapsed after a great feast with five royal guests, and foul play was suspected. Who killed the king was the question we were asked.. and every day Neopets released a new clue until we had all the information we needed to solve the mystery. It was set up as a type of logic puzzle and we were required to figure out:
If you want to try to solve it, the feast guests are listed here, and the clues are listed here. The solution is at the bottom of this page. Click the trohpy to see if your answer matched the winning answer:

Brucey B's War Tent
Shortly after it's rediscovery by Brucey B and his friends, the Lost Desert was invaded by our old enemy, Dr. Sloth. Brucey B decided to do something to help the people of Sakhmet in their time of need. He borrowed a big tent and is now recruiting brave Neopians to lead an attack against Sloth's army. Calling on all Neopians to join the fight to preserve Sakhmet, he was able to raise a Neopian militia that eventually drove away Dr. Sloth. Now, even though the war is over, the war tent remains still standing. Inside are relics from the battle as well as a battered bulletin board that still has the memos from the war posted on them in a sort of timeline.
You can read the full Brucey B and the Lucky Coin by clicking here.
In case you were wondering, here is the correct USURPER! solution:
