Sometimes it's hard to keep up with the news on a day to day basis. Here are the highlights from the Neopets news page for this month...
For anyone who may have missed it, the Hidden Tower is no longer at: http://www.neopets.com/faerieland/hiddentower.phtml Neopets has changed the URL to: http://www.neopets.com/faerieland/hiddentower938.phtml There may be a few outdated links on TNE, but I'm fixing them as fast as I can find them.
There is now a link to the Notice Board on the shops toolbar. (June 3, 2003)
Neopets released a lot of new items as prizes for the Tombola. (June 3, 2003)
Neopoint increases: Now whenever you play Ultimate Bullseye you will earn 33% more Neopoints. Neopets also increased the NP that you can earn from Feed Florg. (June 3, 2003)
A strange pit has been located in the ruins of Maraqua. Maybe this has something to do with the recent sighting of Maraquan Neopets, and maybe it is a portal to an ancient, kingdom... or maybe not! (June 10, 2003)
Now you can check the Weather in all the different parts of Neopia. (June 10, 2003)
There are some new Lost Desert themed Buddy Icons including King Coltzan, Peopatra and the Fruit Machine. (June 10, 2003)
Neopets has added a new feature on the site today, the PPL which is short for PETPET PROTECTION LEAGUE. Each week we will select a Petpet, and everybody who has owned one for more than a week will be given 10 Neopoints per day of ownership, and the top owners will get a medal for their Neopet. If all your Neopets have Ghostkerchieves, then you get the bonus for each one. (June 11, 2003) There is also a weekly Petpet Protection League hi-score table. (June 12, 2003)
Expect changes in the Chat Rooms. From the news page: Just so you know, we are working on a new message board system for the site. We know ours is terrible and really needs a facelift, so a nice new chat system will be coming soon! (June 12, 2003)
One June 12, 2003, many petpets disappeared (including JC’s pet Jinjah, Giggler).
| |
|
| Giggler the Jinjah is missing! |
Waaah... where hasGiggler gone??? |
And it looked like Sloth was up to his old tricks again. There was a report of a shady character boarding a shuttle heading towards the Virtupets Space Station.
(June 17, 2003)
It seems that they were actually pigging out rather than “stolen”:
They were finally returned on June 23, 2003. From the news page: Wow - it seems all the petpets that were missing have returned to their owners. I wonder where they went... it's a shame that they can't talk :( One thing is for sure, they all seem VERY happy! As you can see…they really enjoyed that Green Jelly in Jelly World:
Any guesses on what will happen next?
A new random event was released:
| Something has happened! |
|
| |
A torrent of multi-coloured water falls from the sky and DRENCHES Jenny945!!! You hear evil cackling from the sky... |
Rumor has it that it will randomly change the color of your active pet. (June 13, 2003)
There is a new Neopedia article about Eliv Thade's prized possession, the Amulet of Thilg. (June 17, 2003)
The Games Room images have been given a new look. Personally, I liked the old look… (June 18, 2003)
Feeling his skills were being wasted, cunning Advisor Broo has decided to step into the Battledome and prove his superiority once more. To find him, simply play Dice-a-Roo until he challenges you. (June 18, 2003)
Neopets posted a reminder about “neodating” on the news page: IMPORTANT Neopets is not a dating agency - not for people or pets. So don't make posts or guilds looking for boyfriends/girlfriends or 'neo-marriages', please! This is not the place for it. Besides, your Neopets are far too young to marry... (June 18, 2003)
As promised, Neopets now has Mini-Worlds. They will let you explore parts of Neopia that your Neopet has not been before. The first world is Roo Island. Maybe now we will finally have the chance to find out more about Kiko Lake, Lilac Islands and the other areas that have (until now) only existed in the NeoPedia. (June 19, 2003)
Some new Coloring Pages have been added to Jelly World. (June 19, 2003)
You can now see the Gender of a Neopet in the Neopian Pound. (June 23, 2003)
THE RAINBOW FOUNTAIN is back! Click here to visit the fountain, and see if you are lucky enough to take your Neopet for a quick swim. In the past, you could sign up with Neopets sponsors in exchange for "Fountain Passes". These passes could then be used to changer your pet's gender, color or species. (June 24, 2003)
The Faerie Quests that are given out as random events just got more interesting. The Space Faerie will now join in and give out quests. (June 24, 2003) The Fountain Faerie will also now appear on the site and give out a quest. That means that the Rainbow Fountain will be quest driven rather than sponsor driven. It should be interesting to see how that develops. (June 25, 2003) Neopets increased the frequency of Fountain Faerie Quests and have made the items she asks for slightly less rare. (June 26, 2003)
Toybox Escape should now give trophies. (June 25, 2003)

As with all good help sites, the pages on the Neopian Educator are always under construction. Suggestions and constructive criticism are always welcome. Simply fill out the automatic comment form.
Lots of little updates for the site this month:
The “Other Great Sites” page was updated to include some of the more recent TNE Teacher’s Pet award winners.
In an effort to provide entertainment when Neopets is down for maintenance or otherwise unavailable, TNE is working on a page for What to do when Neopets is Down all constructive comments are welcome.
Because item lists are done so well at NeoItems.net, TNE will be referring everyone to that site for the latest in item news. Book, Food, and possibly the Cooking Pot pages will be changed to reflect that. We will continue to discuss them, but NeoItems specializes in listing them.
The Meridell portion of the tour is finally finished. The page was delayed until all the dust settled from the war. It looks like that plot is truly over…which is sad. Not because they ended but because is was such a poor ending; especially after such a long wait.
The way that email addresses are stored was reworked. This should make it easier to ensure that no duplicate email addresses are listed for the newsletter. If you are one of the ones who received multiple copies, I’m sorry for the mix-up.

Halfway through? Revisiting the NeoMillionaire Resolution.
Some of you may have made the New Year’s Resolution to become a NeoMillionaire. We are halfway through the year…how are you doing so far? Let me guess, you haven’t been saving like you should have. Instead of about 500,000 np, you have about 5? Or maybe you’re a new player who has set a personal goal of reaching the NeoMillionaire mark. It will be a little bit tougher, but you can still be a NeoMillionaire by the end of this year.
As you may remember from the December edition, our game plan for becoming a NeoMillionaire was fairly easy and straightforward:
Total Goal: 1,000,000 neopoints
Daily Goal: 4,000 neopoints
With only half a year left, it’s going to take a little more work. There are roughly 52 weeks in a year, and about 25 weeks left in this year. Assuming you play 5 days a week, that gives you 125 days to make your one million neopoints. Instead of 4,000 np per day, you will need to make an average of 8,700 neopoints per day. It may sound like a lot if you are just getting started, but trust me…you can do it.
First, be sure
to open a bank account with the National
Neopian.
The form you will fill out doesn’t mean anything. It’s “just for fun” so you
can put whatever you like. When you log on each day, be sure to collect your
interest at the bank. At first, it doesn’t seem like much, but every bit helps…and
why turn down free neopoints?
Speaking of “free”, don’t overlook all the other Free
Stuff around
the like the Giant Omelette. Once you have taken advantage of the
daily freebies, it’s time to make
The next step is to determine which types of games you like to play, and then plan on maxing out your points on those games when you first log on each day. If you like card games, you can average a gain of at least 100 np per game of Pyramids (My average is 150 for a bad game, and it costs 50 np to play). It is possible to earn up to 5000np per day just on that game. If you like shooters and arcade style games, you may be interested in Pterattack. You can earn up to 1000np per game and can play 3 times each day. Even with a slow computer, you should be able to max out those points in less than half an hour. Don’t forget about the quick np makers like Meerca Chase and Kiko Match II…these can add to your total quite nicely. Focus on games you like to play, or you will not be able to keep up with your goal. Remember, the point is to have fun while you earn. Keep track of the games you are good at and play them first. Some people suggest saving your favorites for last, but I’ve come to this conclusion: If you save them for later, you might not have time for them.
Total Goal: 1,000,000 neopoints
Daily Goal: 8,700 neopoints
Game Plan:
| Game |
Neopoints earned |
| Daily Interest (from the bank) |
(Varies depending on account level) |
| Awards from Dailies |
(Varies depending on luck) |
| 3,000 (1000 per game) |
|
| 0750 (Click here for walkthrough) |
|
| 0600 |
|
| 1,000 (Click here for puzzle solutions) |
|
| 2,000 and up (Click here for guide) |
|
| 1,000 (even on a bad day) |
|
| 1,000 (even on a bad day) |
|
| 1,000 (until pet is bored) |
|
| Daily Total (should at least be 8,700np) |
10,350 |
* Note that the neopoints earned in this game will depend on how many anagrams you solve before leaving.
Once you have earned your goal of 8700np for the day, deposit it in your bank account. Do NOT spend any of this. Play more games (like the sponsor games) or use what you make from your shop to get the neopoints you need to take care of your pet. With all the games available, it has never been easier to earn neopoints. As you can see from the table above, I still have an extra 1650np to spend on food, toys, books, or whatever else I need for my pet Aisha, JC (jenny945) and that’s before I’ve played any of the sponsor games, which often add a little variety (and a lot of neopoints) to daily totals.
One last piece of advice: there are no “get rich quick” plans, np/item generators, magical “secrets” or shortcuts to becoming a NeoMillionaire. At best, these scams will cost neopoints rather than making them…at worst, it can cost you your account.
Play safe and have fun!

Now that Meridell has been restored, you can play Cheeseroller again. It's the craze sweeping Neopia - buy your cheese from the cheese shop, and then see how fast you can run down a hill with it.
The first step, of course, is to buy your cheese. Unfortunately, the salesman won't tell you what he has to offer, or how much they cost. Here are the cheeses you may buy, arranged from least expensive (Spicy Juppie Cheese for 150 np) to most expensive (Overgrown Cheese for 2400 np):
Name |
Price |
![]() Spicy Juppie Cheese |
150np |
![]() Smoked Snorkle Cheese |

![]() Triple Mustard Cheese |
450np |
![]() Honey Cheese |

Personally, I don’t think it matters which cheese you buy. I’ve actually had more luck with the cheaper cheeses…
Once you've purchased your cheese, it's time to roll it down the hill.
Unlike many other games, Cheeseroller doesn't rely on quick reflexes or
a fast computer. It is strictly “turn based”, meaning you
make a choice and wait to see what happens rather than trying to focus
on what to do next like Pterattack.
You have to travel 120m to reach the bottom of the hill, and a variety
of options (go faster, dive right or left, etc.) for each move. Each move
advances 10m down the hill, and takes some time.
DISTANCE TO FINISH LINE : 120m
TIME TAKEN : 0 seconds
Select your move from the drop down menu. You can chose:
О
Forward Somersault
О
Push Cheese Faster
О
Hold Cheese Steady
О
Dive Left
О
Dive Right
Jenny945 pushes the cheese faster down the hill ... and a big rock is jutting out of the ground to the left ... SLAM!!! - That's going to cost at least four more seconds
DISTANCE TO FINISH LINE : 110m
TIME TAKEN : 5seconds
That was obviously not a good move...time to try again...
Jenny945 dives left ... good thing you avoided that low branch, eh?
DISTANCE TO FINISH LINE : 100m
TIME TAKEN : 6seconds
Much better...see how happy JC is? That means you made the right choice. If your pet looks sad or angry, you goofed and it cost you time.

Once you reach the finish, you are told how long it took, what your rating is (and if you get neopoints) and (if you make it in under a minute) the cheese you get to keep. You can only play three times a day, and beating a minute is harder than it sounds.
Name: Shiver Me Shrimp
Available: From the Golden
Dubloon
Neopet’s Description: Three plump shrimp
served with cocktail sauce
TNE’s Description: This sauce is
so tasty that three shrimp will not be nearly enough.
Ingredients:
Directions:
Combine all ingredients to make sauce. Pour over the shrimp, or dip the shrimp in the sauce.
*If you have never prepared shrimp, here’s how:
If you wish, you may peel and de-vein the shrimp before starting. It doesn’t matter since it will not change cooking time, but many people prefer to do that.
To boil shrimp, bring water to a boil. If you wish, you may add some premixed seasoning to the water to add more flavor, but that is up to you. Add shrimp carefully to boiling water.
The water will stop boiling when you add the shrimp. Once the water has started boiling again, your shrimp are done. Do not continue cooking them since it will make them tough.
Once you have cooked the shrimp, cool the shrimp as fast as possible by straining them from the hot water and place them in a bowl of cold water. Some people suggest using water with ice cubes to make them cool faster.
