What is an avatar?

An avatar is just a fancy term for a picture that represents you on a chat. Many chats (on other sites) will allow you to create your own, but Neopets limits you to a preset selection in order to prevent objectionable images from being used. Many are automatically available on the Chat Preferences page.

There are special avatars that you can get around the site like the Number Six avatar you get by carrying the same amount of neopoints as Adam is on the “About us” page or the Dr. Sloth one you can get from a random event.

Once you "find" or "earn" a special avatar, simply return to the Chat Preferences page to select it.

Bunninator	Defeat the Cybunny on NeoQuest II in chapter 5
Buzz	Score 300 or more at the Buzzer Game
Buzzin'	Get a Fountain Faerie quest (extremely rare random event) and paint your Buzz any color at the Rainbow Fountain.
Cackle	Complete Edna's quests until you get this random avatar.
Capara	Beat Capara in the first round of Cheat and get a Capara battlecard
Chase	Score 750 or more on Meerca Chase.
Chia Bomber	Score a high score in Chia Bomber
Chocolate	Buy a gourmet chocolate treat from the Chocolate Factory (rarity of 90 - 100)
Chokato	Have the Chokato (TCG) item in your inventory and refresh like crazy.
Coco Roller	Download the game Coco Roll onto your cell phone.
Coconut JubJub	Feed an item with the word coconut in it to your Coconut JubJub.
Codestones	Have the complete set of 10 codestones in your inventory.
Colorful	Drop by a Rainbow Korbat's lookup, like Korbath owned by reikaidetective.
Cracked	Visit a Baby Pterie's profile, like aeonz.
Darigan Darkling	Did you fight on Darigan's side in the Meridell vs. Darigan war? If so, drop by your profile.
Dark Peophin	Visit the lookup of a Darigan Peophin, like Sweeterze.
Deadly Dice	Beat Count von Roo at Deadly Dice. Note: As with the Battledome matches for Count von Roo, he is only available from midnight to 1:00 a.m. NST.
Defender of Meridell	This is a random event while playing Invation Of Meridell.

Elephante Surprise	Feed your Elephante a bag of peanuts.
Emo Goth Usuki	Change your shopkeeper to the Gothic Usul.
Escape Artist	Score 1000 on Dice Escape
Extreme Potato Counter	Get a high score on Extreme Potato Counter
Evil? Oh yeah!	You can no longer find/earn this avatar. To get this, you had to complete one of Jhudora's quests on February 4, 2004.
Faboo	Buy a clothes item from Uni Clothing with a rarity of 80 or higher.
Faerie Grundo	Look up a Faerie Grundo's profile. Try Wormmon237
Fashion	You can no longer find/earn this avatar. To get this, you had to check the News page on April Fools Day. (April 1, 2004).
Fire Paw	Add the Fire Paw card to your Neodeck
Firey Pterie	Visit a Fire Pteri's profile, like RoboCoppy.
Forever Orange	Have an Orange Grundo and view its profile.
Freaked Korbat	Get a high score on Korbats Lab
Free Jhuida	You can no longer find/earn this avatar. To get this, you had to bring a Tabogo Potion to Jhuidah while she was trapped in the fish bowl during the Volcano Mystery (September 24, 2003 - October 18, 2003).
Funny	This was an award for the winners of the 400th Caption Contest. Rumor says that every 100th caption contest will offer the same prize (500th, 600th, 700th etc..)
Fyora the Faerie Queen	Buy any item from the Hidden Tower Big Spenders only.
Gadsgadsbogen	Score 1000 on Gadsgadsgame
Game Over	Simply lose a round of Cliffhanger.
Garlic! Run!!	Feed your pet a food item with "Garlic" in the name.
Ghost Lupe	Defeat the Ghost Lupe in the Battledome.If you haven't found him yet, he's haunting the neohome at 131 Soup Alley.
GNOME!	Have a gnome of any type in your inventory and then visit the Garden Shop.

Haunted Woods Stamp	Complete the Haunted Woods page of the Stamp Album.
Heermeedjet	Find and get Heermeedjet and Meerouladen as battledome challengers by refreshing the Trapdoor page. Go to Mission 8 for the Defenders of Neopia and fight them in the battledome. Once you return to the Defenders of Neopia headquarters, you will randomly get this one or the Meerouladen avatar.

I *heart* Sloth	You can no longer find/earn this avatar. To get this, you had to go to Sloth's Mind Control Lab and answer his questions as a true Sloth fan on Sloth Appreciation Day. (January 14, 2004).
I love my Rock	Buy a Sticks N Stones ticket and watch their show at the Concert Hall in Tyrannia.
I Saved Mystery Island	You can no longer find/earn this avatar. To get this, you must have been within the first 10,000 to successfully solve the Volcano Mystery plot. (September 24, 2003 - October 18, 2003).
Illusen	Complete level 20 or higher on her quest.
I'm Smelly	Hold 10 different items with the word 'dung' in your inventory and refresh your inventory page forever.
Island Quiggle	Own an Island Quiggle and view it's lookup.
It's Alive	Visit a pet who has a Faellie as their petpet. Try callistinnea's pet, Trileane and scroll to the bottom of the page.
Jetsam Chomp	Feed a pepito (retired petpet) to your Jetsam.
Jhudora	Complete level 20 or higher on her quest.

Magical	Use any Morphing Potion on your pet.
Maraquan Krawk	Look up a Maraquan Krawk's profile. Try FathomlessEvil
Mazzew	Have a Mazzew attached to your pet for 250+ days.
Mediocre	You need to win the grand prize of 1,000 NP on the Wheel of Mediocrity in order to get the avatar.
Meerouladen	Find and get Heermeedjet and Meerouladen as battledome challengers by refreshing the Trapdoor page. Go to Mission 8 for the Defenders of Neopia and fight them in the battledome. Once you return to the Defenders of Neopia headquarters, you will randomly get this one or the Heermeedjet avatar.
Mew	Unconfirmed Random event after giving an item to a kadotie in the Kadoatery.
Minion	Simply visit Lord Kass's Gallery of Evil page.
Mmm, Snow	You'll need a score of at least 5000 on Snowmuncher.
Meowclops	Give a Meowclops (retired petpet) to your pet and then go to the Quick Ref page.
Meridell Knight	Did you fight on Meridell's side in the Meridell vs. Darigan war? If so, drop by your profile.
Meuka	Defeat Meuka in the Battledome.
Mmm…Toasty	Have an item with Bread (NOT toast) in the name in your inventory and visit Techo Mountain
Moody	Tell King Skarl a bad joke and he may randomly give it to you.
Mootix	Attach a Mootix petpetpet to your pet's petpet. (Say that three times fast...)
MSSP	To get this evil poogle, you need to have the Malevolent Sentient Poogle Plushie (TCG) Item in your inventory and refresh forever.
Mutant Jubjub	Feed your pet a transmogrification potion.
Mystery Island Stamp	Complete the Mystery Island page of the Stamp Album.
Mystic	Visit the Island Mystic The fortune he gives you must have Kyrii in it.
Neomail Addict	Send a neomail to anyone. Both the title and the message body must say: I Love Neomail!
Ninja Kiko	Once you have a Niten Hiroru card in your inventory, visit his Neopedia page.
NT Star	You must have had at least 10 items in the Neopoian Times.
Number Six	You must be carrying the same amount of neopoints as Adam is on the About Us page.
OhEmGee	Visit a Royal Bruce's profile, like Webbian.
Pack Rat	Hold at least 1000 different items in your Safety Deposit Box.
Pant Devil	How badly do you want this? Have a Hidden Tower artifact in your trades and refresh until you get it. To truly taunt the Pant Devil, just keep it in your inventory.
Petpet Sitter	Score 2500 or more on Petpet Sitter
Pick Your Own	Play Pick Your Own and find 6 items with no dung.
Pirate Aisha	Visit the Swashbuckling Academy Room 45 by clicking here.
Pirate Krawk	Visit the Swashbuckling Academy Room 2 by clicking here.

Plushie Eyrie Squawk	Simply type "squawk" in one of the chats. Then simply return to the Chat Preferences page to select it. Note that you will not see anything saying you "found" it, it simply appears in your list. For this to work, you must be using the default avatar when you post.
Plushie Nova	You can no longer find/earn this avatar. To get this, you had to visit the McDonald's Daily Giveaway on May 31, 2004.
Plushie Tycoon	Receive a high score in Plushie Tycoon
Pow	Win a game of Gormball

Seasonal Attack Pea	You can no longer find/earn this avatar. To get this, you must have visited the Advent Calendar on December 4, 2003. May be available next December.
ShapeShifter	Advance past round 5 of ShapeShifter and then return to the main ShapeShifter page.
*sigh*	Give a grey-painted petpet to your pet and then go to the Quick Ref page.
Slorg	Refresh your quick reference page if your pet has been equipped with a slorg for at least 25 days.
Snorkle	Feed a Snorkle Snout to your pet.

Space Faerie	Beat her in the Battledome.

Valiant	This is randomly awarded after a battledome victory. I suggest battling the Chia Clown. A special thanks to dremwevr7 for putting together this helpful step by step guide to get it while the war is going on: 1. Go to battledome 2. Click on 1 Player 3. Select your pet from drop down menu 4. Delete whatever is in the address bar at top of screen. 5. Type in: javascript:MakeOnePlayerChallenge(31) 6. Hit enter. 7. You will begin a battle with the Chia Clown. 8. Beat him 9. Click Next when it says: You Have Beaten Chia Clown. 10. Refresh on the page that comes up next that says: and the winner is until the avatar appears.
Vexed	I'm still a little unsure of how this one works... Play the game, Cellblock, on at least Tournament 12 level. It doesn't seem to matter if you win or lose...

For the ones that involve a high score, I suggest waiting until the scores are cleared at the first of each month. Otherwise, you'll have a much tougher time earning a high enough score to get them.

What is a NeoTitle?

A NeoTitle is a little “catch phrase” that you can add next to your avatar. It is not a signature. These are preset phrases that cannot be altered. To truly personalize your posts, you will want to set up your default NeoHTML and a NeoSignature.

What is NeoHTML?

NeoHTML is a carry over from the old chats. There was a lot of confusion about how to use it or even how to set it up. This has been simplified on the new NeoBoard system.  It is used to add a little fun to your posts either by using emoticons, bold or colored fonts or even different sized fonts.

As with standard HTML, you use "tags" to tell the computer what you want it to do. The format is roughly "opening tag" My stuff here "closing tag". For NeoHTML, these tags are already set up for you; all you have to do is replace the word "text", or specify what type, size, and color of font you want.

We'll start with a text replacement, first. Let's say you want to emphasize the word "great" in the following: "You won a new petpet at Tombola? That's great news!" Here is what you would do:

1. Type: You won a new petpet at Tombola? That's

2. Click on the button just above the message box. You will see [b]TEXT[/b] appear in the message box. Replace the word TEXT with the word/phrase you want to be in bold letters. In this case, you would use "great". It should look like this: [b]great[/b]

3. Finish your phrase. This works for B (bold), I (italic), U (underline), G (glowing) and S (Shadowed) buttons as well as the "sup" (superscript) and "sub" (subscript) buttons.

If you have done this correctly, it should look like this:
You won a new petpet at Tombola? That's [b]great[/b] news!

and post as:
You won a new petpet at Tombola? That's great news!

Here are the different text buttons:

Now let's talk about changing font. To change the font, click the purple "F" button. You should see this: [font c=black s=3 f=arial]TEXT[/font] The "c=black" portion means that the color of your letters will be black; "s=3" indicates how big your letters will be; "f=arial" means that the actual font style will look like the arial font in a Word document. When you have time, you may want to play around with a few phrases in Word just to see how different fonts look. As you can see, it's almost as simple as typing a Word document.

How is the default NeoHTML set up?

If you want to use the same type of font on almost every post, you can set it up on the Chat Preferences page. If you want your message board postings to always default to pink, glowing, small, floaty text, then that is where you do it. Note that instead of “TEXT” you must use the word “neoHTML”. A lot of people like the "glittery" look which is done by using an animated emoticon and the "glow" feature.

So...if you wanted the pink glittery look, you'd use this:

[glow c=pink]TEXT *cry*[/glow]

For your default NeoHTML, you'd use:

[glow c=pink]neoHTML *cry*[/glow]

What is a NeoSignature?

A NeoSignature (or siggy as they are often referred to as) is like a signature for a letter. It’s your own personal phrase that sets your posts apart from someone else…like your name. Neopets will allow you to set up your own signature as long as you do not create something objectionable. As with the avatars and other features, you can set it up on the Chat Preferences page.

What are emoticons?

The little smiley faces, tiny pet pictures, and small images you see on the posts are called emoticons. Originally, they were emotion icons. Since then, several non-emotion pictures have been added and the name has been condensed to “emoticons”. A short list may be found at: http://www.neopets.com/smilies.phtml. Some are listed on the chat board itself and can be inserted simply by clicking on them. Others are a little harder to find and are listed below:

Why do the boards change the order they are listed in?

Unlike the old chat system. Neoboard are listed based on when someone last posted. When someone posts on a board, regardless of when the board was created, it is "bumped" to the top of the list. In fact, users will often just post "bump" to move a board they want noticed back to the top when it drops down.

What are hidden boards?

These are boards that are not listed on the main chat page. There's nothing wrong or "special" about them, they are just extra chats for fun.
