How do I get to the Auctions?
To get to the Auction House, click on 'Shops' in the yellow side bar. There
are now 2 links to Auctions from this page. The first is in the toolbar at the
top of the page. Click on the small hammer. The other link is on the main map.

What is an Auction?
If you have an item that you no longer want, you can put it up for auction
and other people will be able to bid on your item. The person who bids the highest
price recieves the item. You can set a minimum price and say how long you want
the auction to go on for.

| The Auctioneer |
The Auction Genie |
Like all auction houses, sometimes you can get really great deals here. This is a great place to sell your items before you have enough np saved up to open your own shop, or when you just want to move your items quickly without discounting them too much. Be sure you want to sell it before you put it up for auction, because you cannot bid on your own lots. This is to keep some of the less than honest Neopians from driving up the prices of their lots.
The auctioneer has a genie tucked away who helps him keep track of all the items. Be sure to check with him so you know what's available. Simply type in the item you are looking for and he'll show you what is currently available, what the current price is, and how much longer bids will be accepted on that lot.
How to put something up for auction?
Go to 'Shops', then click on your items. Click on the item you wish to put
up for auction and a new window should pop up. Select 'Put up for auction' and
press submit. You should now see some more options. Here you can set the minimum
price you want to get for your item and how long you want the auction to last.
When you have filled in these details, your item should now be put up for auction.
To check on this if you go back to 'Your Items', you should see your item with
the word 'auctioned' on it.
You can also limit who can bid on your lots to just your neofriends. Once you set that, only someone on your list can bid on them...but I'm not really sure why that's a desireable thing...
Can I get my item out of the auction?
Once you have put an item up for auction, you cannot get it out again. You will have to wait for your auction to finish. When you put an item into auction you will be asked to confirm this, so you cannot put an item up for auction by accident.
How do I bid on an item?
Click on 'Shops' and go to the Auction House'. Click on the item you wish to bid on. Then type in the amount of Neopoints you wish to bid for it. If you are certain, click on 'Place Bid' and the Auctioneer will tell you if your bid has been accepted.
What if you make the highest bid?
If you make the highest bid for an item and have the funds to pay for it, then
you will be sent the item as soon as the auction closes. This may take up to
24 hours to arrive, as we have thousands of auctions happening at the same time.
If you do not have the money to pay for it, then the item will go to the next
highest bidder.
What if someone bids more than you?
Then they have a greater chance of buying the item as long as they have the funds to afford it when the auction closes. You now have to decide if you want to try bidding even higher or if you want to wait until the auction closes and see what happens.
What if no one bids on my item?
If nobody bids on your item and the auction closes, you will get your item
returned to you. This may take up to 24 hours, as we have thousands of auctions
running at the same time.
How to give someone their item and collect your NeoPoints
If you have had a successful auction (i.e., someone has bid for your item and
they have the funds to pay for it), the highest bidder will be sent your item
and you will be sent your Neopoints. This may take up to 24 hours, as there
are thousands of auctions running at the same time.
What is trading?
Trading is when you swap a selection of items or Neopoints for another item or amount of Neopoints.

Trading Post
Swapping items is a common event in Neopia. The Trading Post was established to ensure that both parties get what they expect. When someone wants to offer one or more items for trade, a "lot" is created. Each lot has a picture of the item(s), the name(s) of the items(s), and what the owner would be interested in receiving. If you are interested in bidding on that lot, you may offer items currently in your inventory and neopoints to make your offer more apealing. Unlike shops or auctions, the owner can decide whose trade to accept.
How do I trade?
Use the Island Trading Post. Do not trade with indivdual players without using the Trading Post as there is no guarantee you will get the item in return.
To create a trade, go to the main Trading Post page, there you will see all of the trades you are trying to make, and also at the bottom you will see a button labeled "Create A New Trade". Click this button and follow the directions to create a new trade. Here is an example of a trade that I set up:
|
If someone makes an offer on that trade, the " (There are no offers on this lot)" will change to a hyperlink that will show me how many offers were made, who made the offer, and what they are offering in trade. The "Wishlist" is where you tell others what you are wanting. In this case, it was a joke between a friend and I. If I wanted a specific item in trade, I would list it here. The "Link to this lot" is a quick way to tell someone where this specific lot is located so they can bid on it. They can also view all of your trades at the "Link to all of your lots".
To see what other people want to trade go to the Browse Lots link at the top of any of the Trading Post pages. This will take you to a page where you can either look through the "Newest 20" lots, or you can do a search on a person's username, a Lot number, or an item name.
There is a time delay between when the offer is accepted and when the trade is completed. Your items will "disappear" for a while, but you will get what you traded for a short while later.
Before creating a trade, bidding on a trade, or accepting a bid on one of your trade, it's always a good idea to check the shop wizard for current market values.
One important rule: Never trade without using the Trading Post.
What is a "wishlist" and how do I add one?
A wishlist is simply what you want in exchange for your item. This is what you are asking others to offer for your items.
When you create a new trade, your screen should look like this:

Type in your wishlist in the box (In this case, I am asking for a particular map piece). Once you click "Start Trading" it should create the trade and list the items in your wishlist:

Where is the Island Trading Post?
The Island Trading Post is on Mystery Island. Click on 'Explore' on the yellow side bar, then click on 'Mystery Island'. The Island Trading Post is towards the bottom of the map.
There is also a link on the main shop page, now. You can click Jhuidah to go directly to the trades.

How long will my trade take?
Trading lasts indefinitely until someone has either made an offer to you or
accepted your offer on one of their trades. Once an offer has been agreed upon
the trade is over and the items and neopoints will be traded.
Once an offer is accepted, the items/neopoints will disappear from both users accounts. Depending on how busy they are, they will reappear shortly in the proper accounts. Sometimes it can take as long as 24 hours to move the items if the site is really busy.

Just be patient...some times things take longer than others. After all, if you throw around a snowglobe, it's a lot more likely to break than a keyring.
